1 star:

MY EYES!!! AGH! MY EYES, MAKE THE TORTUROUS BURNING STOP!!! HAVE MERCY!!!

2 stars:

What is this shit??? How could something like this get published? I probably don’t understand why this book even exists. It might have numerous mechanical errors and a plot/protagonist that is just plain horrible.

2.5 stars:

I really don’t like it. It’s probably boring and/or problematic to the point of absolute hilarity. I think its redeeming qualities are scarce but do exist; however, I don’t want to read it again and feel as if my issues with it are more objective and serious. This is typically the lowest rating that I will give to a publication.

3 stars:

I think that this book is mediocre. I had a difficult time with the reading process, and it most likely feels like a boring chore. I might have subjective issues with the writing style.

3.5 stars:

I liked it, but there were at least two issues with the book that were highly disruptive and/or disappointing.

4 stars:

I thoroughly enjoyed it! There might be a few flaws, but they don’t detract too much from the book’s quality. This book was probably hard to put down but might have been lacking in proper mechanics or plot/character development.

4.5 stars:

This is a beautifully written book that will stay in my heart for a long time. This book has exceptional prose, character development, etc. that rises far above the average.

5 stars:

OMG I WOULD MARRY THIS BOOK PLEASE CAN I MARRY YOU BOOK!!!

Disclaimer: I mean no offense by my rating system. This is a personal blog, and it’s a safe place for freedom of self-expression. These are purely opinions. I do not believe that a singular work defines the writing skill of any individual author.
