I Wish You All The Best

Hey Readers!

I read this book in June for Pride Month. I stumbled upon this book because of all the hype that this book was getting on Booktube. This is one of the few LQBTQ+ books that I have read and loved. To me, this book deserves the hype that it is getting and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. So, I have decided to talk about it with you guys.

Synopsis: When Ben De Backer comes out to their parents as nonbinary, they’re thrown out of their house and forced to move in with their estranged older sister, Hannah, and her husband, Thomas, whom Ben has never even met. Struggling with an anxiety disorder compounded by their parents’ rejection, they come out only to Hannah, Thomas, and their therapist and try to keep a low profile in a new school. But Ben’s attempts to survive the last half of senior year unnoticed are thwarted when Nathan Allan, a funny and charismatic student, decides to take Ben under his wing. As Ben and Nathan’s friendship grows, their feelings for each other begin to change, and what started as a disastrous turn of events looks like it might just be a chance to start a happier new life.

This book is definitely one of the best books that I have read this year. I went into this book knowing as little as I could. For a book that was as popular as this one I was able to avoid spoilers.

The beginning of this book did break my heart. I have never realized how a reaction would hurt the person who trusted you enough to come out too. When Ben came out to their parents and then was kicked out because of it broke my heart. I could never be able to do that to my child. This aside, I still loved this book. The part that I was happy to see was how fleshed out Ben and Hannah’s relationship was. I loved seeing how they were able to get to know each other and being able to break down the walls that they had.

My favorite part of the book was watching Ben and Nathan’s relationship go from a friendship to partners (I think that’s what it’s called). I was so excited that they ended up together at the end of the book. I was hoping that they would end up together. Watching these two fall for one another during the whole story was adorable. I think that they were the perfect pair and that they  complemented each other very well.

I rated this book:

This novel had to be one of my favorites for the year. I flew through this book in a matter of days which normally doesn’t happen for me. This book is worth the hype and is a very good book for anyone. Mason Deaver wrote a beautiful book that has stuck with me for the past couple of months. This book will definitely be a reread for me.
