So, I have finally finished this book!! This book has taken me a few months to read. Not to say that this is a bad book, but I did struggle with this book a little bit. When I picked this book up the first time it was after I finished her other series (The Infernal Devices). This book did get hyped up when it first came out and I figured that since I was pretty much caught up with all of her books I wanted to give this book a try.
Synopsis: It’s been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses. Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn’t lead her in treacherous directions. Making things even more complicated, Julian’s brother Mark—who was captured by the faeries five years ago—has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind—and they need the Shadowhunters’ help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn’t recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it? Glitz, glamours, and Shadowhunters abound in this heartrending opening to Cassandra Clare’s Dark Artifices series.
I have had the hardest time trying to figure out my feelings on this book. I haven’t taken so long to read a book like I have with this one. I have picked up and put this book down for months, but I knew that I was determined to finish it.
Lady MIdnight starts 5 years after the events of City of Heavenly Fire. To me, this book started off a little slow and it was really hard for me to get into. I think that I have read the first 100 pages about three times roughly before I was able to move past them. I thought that since this series was set in the same world, that there wasn’t going to be a bunch of world building. Don’t get me wrong this book wasn’t bad there were parts in the story where they did drag on a little bit.
I’m planning on continuing this series because I have heard that this series does get better. I’m kind of nervous because the next couple are fairly huge and I don’t know if they are a little slow towards the middle. But, other than that I really liked this book. I thought that the characters were well fleshed out and that we got to know each of them. I was very happy to see some of my favorite characters from the TMI series (Magnus was my favorite). I thought that the ending was done very well and it did leave a little bit of a cliffhanger.
